Challenge:
We were told to give our preferences for a certain subject we’d like to design a ‘for’ or ‘against’ message for an upcoming referendum.
Response:
I chose to be ‘for’ Universal Basic Income, and was partnered with Olga. With UBI having many pros and cons we found ourselves lost in our research unsure where to go, so we brought it back to basics thinking of the one biggest positive from UBI, the potential of eradicating poverty. We chose to portray a physical poverty line that engulfed the outside world, representing how it feels for those in poverty. A Dispatches documentary has gone viral several times over the years of kids living in poverty, we decided to tell their stories against the poverty line and explain how if UBI was in place, none of it would have happened. Our goals were of course to get people to say yes to UBI, but also defeat the stigma of being in poverty, allowing people to recognise that seemingly small things are enough to push someone over the edge, under the poverty line.
