Challenge:

For this brief, there was a proposed referendum on the topic of the repatriation of cultural artefacts. The result of the referendum influencing whether the topic is tabled at parliament. We were part of a design team tasked with promoting a campaign to agree and repatriate cultural artefacts. The task was to try and convince people that were undecided on the issue which way to vote.

Response:

For this brief, my group and I created an event that would take place at the British Museum. We designed a board game to be played in the grounds that would educate people of all ages about the importance of cultural artefacts and the crimes that Britain committed to obtain them. We created an app that would further educate users and provide a simple way to vote on the referendum. The app also featured snapchat style filters that would show crime scenes and new, altered information boards around the museum. Inside the museum, light projections would cast information onto artefacts with disputed ownership, urging viewers to vote yes. Outside the museum, more projections would label the museum for the crimes it committed in obtaining its collection. Also outside, we displayed humorous western style wanted posters that asked for the return of cultural artefacts. A postal package would provide people with posters, the board game, and a voting slip. Finally, for wider exposure over the UK, light projections would be cast onto British artefacts, landmarks and points of interest, like Stonehenge.
