Challenge:

The challenge of this brief was to create a boundary object to communicate an idea derived from a given location to a specific audience. We were to work independently and draw on an element of storytelling the creation of the object.

Response:

For this brief, I was allocated Heaton in Newcastle. The area has a big student noise problem as the area is very residential with a lot of rented accommodation. There is a big divide between students that live in the area for a year, and locals who live their permanently. To resolve this issue, I created an app and a series of colour changing LED light strips that would attach to Heaton’s houses. The app is used to control the lights on the front of your specific house. Each colour represents a different message which and allows the students and locals to communicate without being face to face. The lights would be used to talk to close neighbours about noise. The app would also have a extra features like a local chat to communicate further if the light’s messages are too simple.
