This briefs aim was to provide us with experience around developing solutions for complex social issues through live collaboration with INTUIT, a research project exploring trusted sharing of personal health data to live well with HIV. The challenge was to create a speculative design response on how we can support those living with HIV through trusted online communications in a post-pandemic society. My response was to create a video narrative exploring how the relationship of an individual living with HIV forms and develops with ‘reflect’, an IoT (internet of thigs) network smart mirror diary. Initially designed as a mirror to offer a discrete self-tracking device which translates the physical experience of diary keeping into a digital medium which more meaningfully engages self-reflection on their own health while engaging with privacy through the creation of an IoT network to which only those living with HIV can access. The video takes a critical lens approach showcasing the benefits but intended consequences that this concept could potentially bring.
