Challenge:

The challenge of this brief was to create a boundary object relating to a specific place. We were assigned a neighbourhood in the Gateshead/Newcastle area that we would need to explore. We were to research in groups then create individual boundary objects to represent our allocated place. The boundary object had to communicate the places identity.

Response:

For this brief, my group and I were allocated the Bridges ward in Gateshead. Although we all created our own boundary objects, we collated our ideas and produced an event to be hosted in the area. The event was called “Bridge the Gap” and was a celebration of the Bridges ward and the “hidden gems” of the area that we had discovered whilst exploring. The event highlighted three independent businesses in the area: Cup and Cake Café, By the River Brew, and The 5 Bridges Plaza skatepark. The event was hosted in front of the Baltic art gallery by the river and consisted of a skatepark, that would be built to fit the space, with food and drink stalls surrounding it. We each designed a poster or flyer that aimed to attract one of three demographics to our event: students, tourists, and business investors.
