Challenge:

A boundary object is a social concept that describes information used in different ways by different people. The key part of a boundary object is that “thing” can be recognised by several communities as the same thing. Brief 1C, Ideas, was a way to explore a new location, creating a boundary object that communicated to two different audiences. For this brief I was given the Bridges location in Newcastle.

Response:

For this brief I wanted to create a promotional event that would encourage people to explore and support all parts of the bridges area. I created a set of cards that would be given out to a consumer when a purchase was made in a place in the area.

When all were collected they come together to create a limited edition art piece. The consumer also gets a postcard that they send to a friend to encourage them to take part. This process also communicates to the Gateshead council as they see what areas are doing well and which may need more support as well as boosting the local economy.
