For my final major project, I created a video game titled Newcastle 2071. The game utilises design fiction to portray a near-future scenario where a climate catastrophe has caused rising sea levels to begin flooding the streets of Newcastle. My fiction speculates the revival of failed brutalist proposals from Newcastle’s history in an attempt to avoid the rising sea. The fiction explores the future of design regarding a change in climate and the cities architecture, and analyses the desires and actions of businesses, local individuals, and the Newcastle city council.
