Last week we started our second set of live briefs

Last week we started our second set of live briefs. One group of students headed over to the location of KidsKabin to speak to the volunteers and learn about how the organisation runs. Alongside enjoying some fun activities like pottery and learning to build a bird house!

A couple of weeks ago a few of our students finished off their first live brief working with SoPost by presenting their projects in the @lifeatsopost studio to the clients!

This project is by @sophielovve_design and @kikokreativ - Our booklet showcases a collection of stickers that have been observed and recorded in and around Newcastle City Center. We saw the use of stickers as an interesting and deliberate way of messaging / mark-making and perhaps a different lens through which we can look at this city, it’s residents, and it’s spirit. The collected photographs have been arranged in different categories based on their context, color, surroundings or use. We also dedicated a number of pages to bring awareness on the sustainability issues that come with the use of stickers as we feel it is a very relevant but perhaps overlooked aspect when it comes to urban messaging.

Our goal was to tell a visual story about the local city center and its frequenters and how they choose to make their mark or share their opinions and voices through this method. We encourage readers to draw their on conclusions and thoughts based on the different content, patterns, styles, repetitions or any other aspect they have noticed within our findings and what it says to them about this vibrant city and those that inhabit it.

This project was done by @sambhalkar_soch & @vibhuti_it_is in pursuit of making Newcastle a sustainable city. The aim of our project is to create an awareness on visual pollution and its impacts on the multi layered public health crisis. We have noticed a significant amount of billboards and advertisements throughout the city. These have a harmful effect on people. For instance, it increases the stress and anxiety levels of a person. We are daily confronted with a variety of advertisement pictures in city squares and review them in our minds. But we may not be aware of the fact that such a visual scramble leads to mind distraction, decreasing mental concentration. Not only these digital adverts bad for our mental health, our local economy, and our physical wellbeing, they are disastrous for our environment; both due to their perpetuation of the drive to consume needlessly, and the damage that entails, and the tremendous amount of electricity they waste. We have designed a letter for Newcastle city council to take action against this environmental crisis and created a visual pollution assessment application for the local audience of Newcastle. We hope our campaign raises awareness and educates residents of Newcastle.

This was a group project from @charlotte.m_design and @alicemakesthis analysing the levels of light pollution and dark sky visibility in Newcastle upon Tyne. We have included different types of lighting and how they impact dark sky visibility, as well as a constellation map based off the numbers of lighting on Grey Street and Grainger Street. We designed it on Figma and idealised interactive elements to adjust the data to different postcodes!

Through our research and findings, we have discovered that most smokers are unaware of the harmful nature of cigarette butts. Our campaign, with its bright colours and local slang, is targeted toward the local audience and it aims to educate and raise awareness about this issue.

We thought we do a retrospective on the MA Communi

We thought we do a retrospective on the MA Communication Design students work over the last year before they graduate. Each day features a single brief and selected students work. For this brief students had one week to create two separate ‘boundary objects’ expressing their shared interests with two new peers.
